But it does! ... fuel octane not high enough. How to Troubleshoot a Car That Won't Turn Off. Still, a leaking fuel injector usually shows other symptoms as well. 3 Posts. Running winter fuel in warm weather. Dieselling in a gasoline engine can be very destructive, because the timing point is not controlled, it just happens whenever the fuel/air mixture gets hot enough to self ignite. Engines so equipped are usually more efficient and more powerful than carburetted ones, and they can also be …
Diagnosing a dieseling engine. Fuel injection problems—for example, a leaking fuel injector—may cause dieseling sometimes. Blocked carbon canister? incorrect heat range plugs.
ENGINE RUN-ON, DIESELING -- RO-101 DIESELING, that nasty tendency of an engine to continue to run on, coughing and sputtering, after the ignition is turned off and there is no more spark. Unless, the fuel injectors are begining to leak, I know the pressure to …
Check your voltage at the coil/distributor to see if it still exists after turning the engine "off". Perhaps two separate issues? If that gasoline comes in contact with a hot piece of metal or carbon, it will explode and cause dieseling.
Purge valve? Fuel injection is the introduction of fuel in an internal combustion engine, most commonly automotive engines, by the means of an injector.. All diesel engines use fuel injection by design.
Starting a hot, fuel injected engine …
Possible explanations: a.) dieseling. timing out. How a fuel injection system works fuel injectors.

At first I was told the dieseling was sensor related so all sensors have been replaced, IAC, TPS, MAF, new injectors, spark plugs, PCV valve, fuel regulator. I know on carbed engines this occurs from alot of heat in the cylinders and compression, burning fuel entering through the carbs, but never, ever heard a electronic fuel injected car diesel before!
The Check Engine Light (CEL) may blink.
Run-on by dieseling is caused by fuel in engine igniting without spark. Unless it is specially equipped, a carburetor will deliver fuel as long as there is air passing through it.
An air/fuel mixture that is too lean or too rich can also cause dieseling, so re-check the mixture to ensure that it's within factory spec. Dieseling is rarely a problem with fuel injection because the fuel delivery is shut down as soon as the switch is off.
hot spot from carbon buildup. Hopefully it has something to do with timing, thanks. Dieseling is great for a diesel engine, because the fuel is injected into the cylinder at the precise moment/angle it is required to produce efficient power. Danny Cabral.
Instead, many cars are now being fitted with fuel-injected engines where the fuel is delivered in precise bursts. A compression ignition engine uses very high compression of the air to heat it self up and the fuel is injected into the cylinder which self ignites (a diesel engine is a compression ignition engine). More modern engines have a fuel injection system designed to stop introducing fuel into the combustion chamber after the ignition switch is turned off, so dieseling is not as common but still possible if fuel remains in the chamber. Fuel is injected into the combustion chamber in less than 1.5 milliseconds (one and a half thousandths of a second) – about as long as a camera flash. If your car was made after 1985 it probably has fuel injection.
Could this be an EVAP issue? If your carbureted car develops a dieseling problem, try adjusting the throttle-position screw to reduce airflow to the engine at idle. 07-14-2017, 12:25 AM #5. For example: You may find it hard to start the engine. All mechanics I talk to say its impossible for an EFI engine to run on. We show you how to install a fuel injection system on any V8. It's more common in fuel injected engines for each cylinder to be primed at once, usually by an auxiliary fuel pump. While priming a carbureted engine, it's possible that only one cylinder is priming, but it can be any number of cylinders, based on your engine's design. The smallest quantity of fuel injected is one cubic millimetre – about the same volume as the head of a pin. Gas engines can use gasoline direct injection, where the fuel is directly delivered into the combustion chamber, or indirect injection where the fuel is mixed with air before the intake stroke. I've researched dieseling, and as the billmorin4's post suggests, it shouldn't be possible to have dieseling with a fuel injected engine. A misfire may occur when starting the engine but may go away soon after.
