We booked this ride as was recommended to us and we were meeting the ship in Bergen. Had a standard class ticket and found that the train was clean and comfortable, well insulated and warm. Buy tickets to all trains and Vy's express buses in Norway.
I had wanted to ride the Bergensbanen ever since taking the train from London to Oslo several years ago. We traveled at the end of winter and the sights in the snow were stunning.

That journey involved one night on a bench in Brussels Midi station, which gave me plenty of time to ponder alternatives to the long train trip, which at the time included the now-defunct Newcastle to Bergen sea route.
The Oslo to Bergen train ride is so charming, in fact, that it is the main leg of the Norway in a Nutshell scenic tour. Very comfortable train and the scenery was stunning.
